We’re taking it slow this season.

But we still have a few tricks up our sleeve. Join us on March 2 as part of the 3-day SHE: Festival of Women in Music.

As for other happenings, make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram so that you’re the first to know when we announce our show.

In the meantime, want to groove with us? We’d love to play for you! Contact us and see what’s possible.

SHE: Festival of Women in Music

Join AEON artist, Joanna Mieleszko, and Rhythm is Image cofounder and composer, Hannah Barnes at this year’s SHE: Festival of Women in Music at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

This interstate collaboration has culminated in a lecture-recital entitled: Sounding out Feminism, wherein Mieleszko will premiere Barnes’ work, In the Garden alongside Rebecca Saunders’ O for solo voice.

Both works toy with timbre, microtonality, vocal restraint, and depend on the treble–specified as soprano–voice to realize an archetypal modernist text that ultimately will not be understood by listeners. When words aren’t split apart into shape-shifting phonemes in “O,” Saunders has the performer speak longer passages from James Joyce’s Ulysses on a whispered breath, which in conjunction with inhales, gasps, exaggerated plosives and sibilants ultimately obscure the listener’s ability to latch onto clear text. In “The Garden,” sounds stretched out across mercurial dynamic markings suggest Hilda Doolittle’s poetry rather than obviously set the poem.

We had a fruitful 2021/22 and we’re gearing up for a noisy 2023/24.

August has just always been a big month for AEON and this year is no different. We had a blast singing by the sea, launching our fundraiser at The City Reliquary, and bringing a cello concerto to life for the first time on this side of the globe!

We’re hibernating during the fall so that we can bring you the first of our commissioned works to you LIVE on December 12th. You don’t want to miss this stunning work exploring multiple spiritual texts and motifs. In fact, listen to the composer talk about the piece himself by clicking here!

Missed any of the above? Relive the fun with us on Instagram, where we post most of our photos and videos. Couldn’t make it out to Boston? The livestream for that is available here.

None of what we do would be possible without your help (and of course, our ambition). Consider supporting our upcoming season’s composers by donating to our fundraiser. It runs until November 11th and comes with some pretty cool perks. Read about it and donate here!
